About Sculpture Walk Peoria...

Joe Richey had a vision of putting sculpture on the streets of Peoria, Illinois. Joe’s business, Tri-City Machine Products, is in the heart of Peoria’s burgeoning Warehouse District. A great supporter of the arts, Joe turned part of his facility into Prairie Center of the Arts, and created artists’ residence space. But, his vision always included large-scale sculpture on the streets.

In, 2008, he began discussions with Craig Hullinger, then
Director of Economic Development for the City of Peoria. The city worked to clear the challenges and the rest of the initiative has been entirely volunteer-driven. A team of dedicated leaders has worked for the last year to bring this exciting addition to the Peoria Warehouse District. Their vision – put art on the streets by June of 2015. The goal has been reached. Joe’s vision…now a reality.

Fifteen artists, representing seven states will install their artwork for a period of twelve months. Every year, a new set of sculptures will be installed and the goal is to grow beyond the current fifteen locations.

“Sculpture Walks” differ from “regular” public sculpture in that the pieces typically change out every year. Tours, people’s choice awards, games, and education are part of the programming for a Walk – and Sculpture Walk Peoria is no exception. You can read about all of it in our brochure.

We are excited and inspired by the incredible sculptures the artists have created to share with the community. We are thankful for the generous sponsors who have made all of this possible. We are indebted to the committed volunteers who made it happen. We are grateful to Joe for pursuing his vision. And we are thrilled to present the inaugural 2015 Sculpture Walk Peoria.

Enjoy,
