1 in 7 Americans Use Food Stamps

"Food-stamp use jumped in the U.S. in December with more than 1 in 7 people receiving benefits"
"Food stamp rolls increased 5.5% in 2011"
"The number of recipients in the food stamp program, formally known as theSupplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), rose to 46.5 million, or 15% of the population in December."

The food stamp program, part of the Department of Agriculture, is distributing the greatest amount of food stamps ever. They have been advertising to attract more food stamp recipients since 2004 and in 2007 began Spanish language advertising.

Meanwhile, the Park Service, also part of the Department of Agriculture, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed the Animals" because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care of themselves.
